Onion pie-Tarte a l’oignon

Ingredients:

1 frozen pie

1 white onion

2 tablespoons of butter

1 cup of milk

½ cup of cream of chicken

1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar

2 slices of American cheese (optional)

1/2 tablespoon of salt

Garlic to taste

Black pepper to taste

 

Directions:

1-Take out your frozen pie and slice your onion in julienne.

2-Put your skillet on medium heat and melt your butter.

3-Add the julienne sliced onions in the melted butter and sprinkle garlic and pepper on the onions.

4-Cover your skillet and uncover when the onions are tender.

5-Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

6-Gradually add and stir your milk then add your cream of chicken. Keep stirring until your sauce thickens. You can substitute the cream of chicken for 3 tablespoons of flour. I use cream of chicken as a thickener instead of flour for its taste.

7-Add your cheeses and keep stirring.

8-Let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes then pour it into your defrost pie.

9-Put your pie into the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes. Broil on low for another 10 minutes until the center is firm and the top is slightly brown.

10-Take out of the oven and let it cool down before serving.
